Leap Methodology

The Axispoint LEAP Methodology is our approach to delivering great value to clients, quickly and with high quality. It details the steps and tasks that need to be undertaken, the products that result from those steps, and the roles of the staff that are involved to enact the steps and produce the products.

The Axispoint LEAP Methodology is based upon a set of underlying principles – the “selling points”. These principles (Agile, Lean, Inclusive, Rapid, Open) permeate the thinking that went into the creation of the method, and have been carefully distilled from the best of the wider contemporary practice in systems development. For example,  the method follows the principles of LEAN processes, and specifically LEAN software development. These are:

  • Eliminate Waste – reduce work and rework that does not add direct value to the product
  • Adapt and Learn – use iteration and improve the product and approach at each turn
  • Deliver as Fast as Possible – get as quickly as possible to a value-enhancing product in live
  • Commit at the Last Responsible Moment – avoid dead-ends by retaining flexibility
  • Empower the Team – place control into the hands of those with the best knowledge
  • Build Integrity In – test and review repeatedly through playbacks
  • See the Whole – ensure overall Visions are created, maintained and held to

Pull tasking, iteration, short Build cycles, team structure, regular reviews and testing, and the Product and Technical Architects’ Visions each directly contribute to the points above, as do many other aspects of the approach.

The structure of the method is encapsulated in the “5-segment wheel” – a tiered approach of Phases, Modules and Stages and the use of Cycles or Iterations of Modules. The Modules, that make up the core of the method, have well-defined inputs and result in the delivery of outputs (called Products) that form the inputs of the subsequent Modules.
